Code of Conduct

1. Purpose

This Code of Conduct sets out the standards of behaviour expected of all members, players, coaches, officials, parents/guardians, spectators, and volunteers of Knox Water Polo Club.

Our aim is to provide a safe, inclusive, respectful, and enjoyable environment where everyone can participate, develop, and succeed in water polo.

This Code applies to all club activities, including training sessions, competitions, travel, social events, and online engagement.


 

2. Club Values

  • Respect – for teammates, opponents, officials, and the game.

  • Integrity – act honestly, fairly, and in the best interests of the sport.

  • Safety – prioritise the physical and emotional wellbeing of all participants.

  • Inclusion – welcome diversity and ensure equal opportunity for all.

  • Excellence – strive for improvement, teamwork, and positive representation of our club.


 

3. Expected Behaviour

Players
  • Play by the rules and respect the decisions of officials.

  • Compete fairly, with integrity and good sportsmanship.

  • Support and encourage teammates; avoid bullying, sledging, or intimidation.

  • Respect coaches, managers, opponents, and spectators.

  • Take responsibility for behaviour on and off the field, including online.

Coaches & Officials
  • Prioritise players’ safety, welfare, and development.

  • Treat all participants fairly and with respect, regardless of ability, background, or identity.

  • Lead by example in behaviour, professionalism, and integrity.

  • Provide feedback and instruction that is constructive, age-appropriate, and supportive.

  • Uphold the rules and spirit of the game without bias.

Parents & Spectators
  • Encourage participation for enjoyment, fitness, and learning — not just for winning.

  • Support players positively; avoid criticism or abusive behaviour.

  • Respect the decisions of coaches and referees.

  • Model good behaviour for young athletes.

  • Never engage in aggressive, discriminatory, or disruptive conduct.

Committee & Volunteers
  • Manage the club with transparency, fairness, and accountability.

  • Provide safe, inclusive facilities and programs.

  • Ensure compliance with laws, policies, and Water Polo Australia (WPA) / Water Polo NSW (WPNSW) guidelines.

  • Handle complaints promptly, fairly, and confidentially.

  • Promote opportunities for all members to contribute and be heard.


 

4. Prohibited Conduct

The following behaviours will not be tolerated:

  • Harassment, bullying, discrimination, or abuse (verbal, physical, emotional, or online).

  • Any form of sexual misconduct or grooming.

  • Intimidation, violence, or threats.

  • Cheating, doping, or other unfair practices.

  • Consumption of illicit substances or irresponsible use of alcohol at club events.

  • Bringing the club or the sport into disrepute, including misuse of social media.


 

5. Child Safety & Member Protection

  • All committee members must hold a valid Working With Children Check (WWCC).

  • Interactions with children and young people must always be appropriate, transparent, and in line with WPA / WPNSW guidelines.

  • Concerns about child safety or misconduct must be reported immediately through the club’s Member Protection Information Officer (MPIO).

  • Retaliation against anyone raising concerns is strictly prohibited.


 

6. Photography & Media

  • The club may take photos or videos during training, games, and events for promotional, educational, or record-keeping purposes.

  • Images may be used in club websites, social media platforms, and promotional materials.

  • Parents/guardians must provide consent for photos or videos of players under 18. Where consent is not given, the club will take reasonable steps to ensure images are not published.

  • Members and spectators must not take photos or videos of players without permission from the club or the individuals concerned.

  • Photography or filming must never be intrusive, exploitative, or used inappropriately.

  • The use of cameras, mobile phones, or recording devices is prohibited in change rooms, toilets, or any private areas.

  • Any concerns about photography or media use must be reported to the club committee or MPIO immediately.


 

7. Complaints & Discipline

  • Breaches of this Code will be taken seriously and investigated promptly by the committee.

  • Depending on severity, consequences may include warnings, suspension, or termination of membership.

  • Serious matters may be referred to Water Polo NSW, Water Polo Australia, or relevant authorities.

  • Members have the right to a fair process and to appeal decisions where appropriate.


 

8. Agreement

All members, players, parents/guardians, coaches, and officials must acknowledge and agree to abide by this Code of Conduct as a condition of registration with Knox Water Polo Club.


 

9. Review

This Code of Conduct will be reviewed every two years, or earlier if required, to ensure it remains current with legislation, governing body policies, and community expectations.
